The Supreme Court’s ruling on stray dogs in Delhi ensures safety and well-being for citizens as well as dogs. I am really very excited to chit-chat with you. But honestly, I was not sure where to start. But then I realised, on this day i.e. 21st Augusts 2025 the most important conversion we can have is this about Supreme Court’s Order on Stray Dogs: A Win for People and Dogs On 21st August 2025, the Hon’ble Supreme Court ordered that Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad should be free of stray dogs. Many may see this as harsh, but I believe it is both necessary and compassionate — for people and for dogs. Chalo ek kahani sunati hu, shayad hum dono connect kar payenge. About a year ago, a little girl in my neighborhood was playing with her sister and father. She adored a dog in the building and, over time, her family too began trusting it. After all, we’ve all been told dogs are loyal, loving, and safe. That evening, as the child played with her beloved dog, tragedy struck. Instead of catching the ball, the dog sank its teeth into her tiny palm. The bite was so severe that, despite immediate medical attention, she lost her hand. Now pause and ask yourself: could that pain, that lifelong scar, ever be justified? This is exactly what the Court recognized. The danger of stray dogs is not just about bites — it is about children who cannot play freely, elderly people who live in fear, visually impaired persons whose walking sticks are seen as threats by dogs, and poor families who cannot afford costly medical treatment after an attack. Loving animals does not mean ignoring human safety. In fact, uncontrolled stray populations are also cruel to the dogs themselves — they live without shelter, food, or care, and end up suffering more. The Supreme Court’s order is not against dogs; it is for creating a balance. It ensures that cities are safe for people and that dogs are treated with dignity, in controlled and humane environments. This decision is not about choosing humans over dogs, though it is actually about protecting both.
